Hope all is going well! Not a whole lot happened this week completely honestly...lots of meetings and Elder Hansen and I were sick for a lot of it (don't worry mom we're better) so I figure I'd just share personal thought!
At the beginning with my mission I struggled with a lot of depression and anxiety, each day it felt like things were getting worse, "why isn't this improving?" I would ask myself as more and more "terrible" things happened.
The Book of Ether really helped me though, if you remember when the Lord was speaking to the Brother of Jared he told him what his journey across the ocean would be like:
24 "For behold, ye shall be as a whale in the midst of the sea; for the mountain waves shall dash upon you. Nevertheless, I will bring you up again out of the depths of the sea; for the winds have gone forth out of my mouth, and also the rains and the floods have I sent forth."
25 "And behold, I prepare you against these things; for ye cannot cross this great deep save I prepare you against the waves of the sea, and the winds which have gone forth, and the floods which shall come. Therefore, what will ye that I should prepare for you that ye may have light when ye are swallowed up in the depths of the sea?"
Does that journey sound fun? No, it sounds terrible, it would take almost a year on the ocean, can you imagine? 344 days of being thrown around in enclosed vessels with a rock to light the ship on the inside and a hole in the top for air. But without that wind, or the waves and the storms, they would never get to the promised land, they would be carried by the current wherever it went.
Without our trials, which sometimes make us feel as if we were "swallowed up in the depths of the sea", we would never get where the Lord wants us to be, God gives us trials and hardships to keep us moving forward so that we don't get carried wherever the current of the world is flowing.
Always remember: "the winds have gone forth out of my mouth, and also the rains and the floods have I sent forth." Our trials are evidence of a loving Heavenly Father who sends them are way to get us back home to the Land of Promise in the Celestial Kingdom. And I know when we make it home, our reunion will be something similar to what the Jaradites experienced:
6:12 "And they did land upon the shore of the promised land. And when they had set their feet upon the shores of the promised land they bowed themselves down upon the face of the land, and did humble themselves before the Lord, and did shed tears of joy before the Lord, because of the multitude of his tender mercies over them.
Stay strong! Love you all!
